- Revolut and Danubius aim to launch additional services and functionalities to provide modern financial solutions to entrepreneurs and companies in Romania.
Bucharest, May 27, 2025 – Revolut Business and Danubius Exim have entered into a strategic partnership to increase the flexibility of merchants and retail networks, which consists of distributing the Revolut Reader terminal to their customers in Romania. The Romanian company is the first of its kind, globally, to sign a commitment with Revolut Business for the Revolut Reader payment device and includes an initial fleet of 2,200 terminals. Danubius will also provide staff training and terminal maintenance services to future customers who will use the Revolut Reader at points of sale.
The device will be distributed through the Danubius national network, which includes over 340 authorized partners, ensuring wide-scale availability throughout Romania. The standard price is EUR 40 + VAT per terminal, and, currently, installation services do not involve additional fees.
Using smart technology to grow the economy and boost business
Revolut Reader equips merchants with a portable payment device capable of accepting both physical and virtual card payments, including those from digital wallets, anytime, anywhere. In Romania, digital payments have grown in popularity, making the use of cash increasingly less. Fintech solutions have become the preferred choice for both consumers and businesses, due to their innovative features and fast transaction processing.
A recent Revolut Business survey, conducted by Dynata[2], found that 30% of respondents using traditional banks experienced slow transactions, the second biggest challenge after high fees (39%). Poor digital and mobile experiences also pose a significant challenge (19%), alongside the other two mentioned above.
“Through the partnership with Danubius, a leading company in the distribution of payment devices and fiscal terminals, Revolut Business makes Romania the first market to host such a collaboration globally. This partnership, with one of Revolut’s most important partners in Romania, will make Revolut Reader available to a large number of retailers and merchants, in a market where we have over 4.5 million users. This is both a testament to the trust that Danubius places in Revolut products, and a shared commitment to supporting Romanian merchants with innovative technological solutions and local partnerships.
Revolut is excited to support the development of an integrated and trusted payments ecosystem in Romania, helping to increase the competitive advantage of companies and entrepreneurs. Research indicates that fintechs are valued by the B2B sector primarily for their innovative offerings (55%), and entrepreneurs prefer digital banks to traditional ones due to the efficiency of transaction processing (85%). Revolut Reader fully meets these requirements and we are excited to expand our presence on the Romanian retail market through solid collaborations with respected and experienced partners such as Danubius”, said Iulian Boia, Sales Manager Revolut Business Romania.
„For over 30 years, Danubius has been at the forefront of innovation in the field of taxation, constantly redefining how technology serves the commercial ecosystem. This partnership with Revolut Business – the first of its kind globally – is an extension of our commitment to anticipate real market needs and challenge conventional solutions. By becoming an exclusive distributor of the Revolut Reader terminal, we are setting new benchmarks in convergence projects between payment collection infrastructure and the taxation system.
This hybrid model bridges digital banking and physical retail operations, offering businesses a smarter, faster and more transparent way to grow. Romania is one of the first countries to facilitate such collaboration and we are proud to contribute to this evolution.”, concluded Velin Ganev, CEO Danubius Exim.
